An aquifer is the underground layer which is composed
of water-bearing rocks. Sandstone, sands, gravel, and other sedimentary rocks
are examples of water-bearing rock. They are permeable and have openings that
gases and liquids can pass through. In a water cycle, a water will be added to
the aquifer during the precipitation.
