Jesus, son of Joseph was born around 6 BC in the area known as Bethlehem. Jesus is also known as Jesus of Nazareth and/or Jesus of Galilee. In Ancient Jewish custom, it was common to regard someone by their first name and attaching their father's name or place of origin.
Jesus was arrested, tried, and executed. After his execution, many believed he still lived and appeared. He was known as Jesus Christ after his death as some followers believed that he was the Messiah, or the son of King David, who was expected to restore Israel.
Jesus was a controversial figure in his time because he was known as a healer who attracted large crowds. His widespread popularity garnered attention from crowds of onlookers which made some suspicious and frightened by what his true motives might be.
