Nowadays it is extremely hard to sell anyone the wisdom for having allowed the creation of the State of Israel. However, shortly after the Holocaust and World War II in the early 1940s, more people than today might see the necessity of Jews to have a nation of their own after centuries of segregation, discrimination and even recurring episodes of mass assassination perpetrated by other peoples.
As most people know, the ancestral homeland of the Jews scattered all over the world is Israel, called Palestine in 1945. Even though Jews were uprooted and scattered to all the corners of the world because of a revolt against the Romans gone awfully wrong, most Jews, unlike many other peoples undergoing the same fate in the past, struggled hard to maintain their national identity no mater where they were born and lived. Almost everywhere they went, except for a few exceptions, they met the distrust and dislike, or even hatred, of their neighbors. Also, they would nearly always be denied many rights other people in their community had, and almost as per rule, they were only allowed to engage in trade, an activity considered as undignified by their neighbors (especially the Christians) and, ironically, trade was an activity Jews excelled at, which earned them many enemies jealous of the skills of Jews for making money.
Since Jews would never fit completely into other societies, the idea for creating a new state of Israel for all the Jews unwelcome elsewhere emerged in the nineteenth century. his idea was not taken seriously by most Jews over the world until the Holocaust and its atrocities were disclosed internationally. As it became clear that no country would be able to enforce equality between non Jews and Jews in their countries, the idea of a country for Jews became appealing. When a decision was made to create the State of Israel in 1947, most countries supported this ruling out of humanitarian causes, to provide the Jews with a country where they could live in free from persecution and violence.
