A Babylonian leader, Hammurabi, is responsible for creating the well-known Hammurabi’s Code. This was the basis of “an eye for an eye”. The laws were posted on pillars in central locations so all were made aware of them. Later, other great empires, such as the Roman Empire, modeled some of their legal system on Hammurabi’s Code.
