When compound A, undergoes reaction with dilute [tex]H_2SO_4[/tex] at [tex]50^oC[/tex] to yield a mixture of two alkenes, B and C. In these two alkenes B is the major product and C is the minor product.
According to the saytzeff's rule, the more substituted alkene is formed as a major product during dehydration that means double bond is formed due to loss of water molecule. Dilute [tex]H_2SO_4[/tex] is act as a dehydrating agent.
Now the major product alkene B gives only 3-pentanone after ozonolysis followed by reduction with zinc in acetic acid.
