How do I find b in y=mx+b when given the points (-4, 6) and (-1, 12)

First you have to find the slope and to do that you have to use the equation [tex]\frac{y_{2}  - y_{1}}{x_{2} - x_{1}}[/tex], in this case, [tex]\frac{12-6}{-4-(-1)}[/tex] which will give you [tex]\frac{6}{-3}[/tex] or -2. Now insert one of the points into the equation y=-2x+b, use reverse order of operations, and you will find b.
