The story may not only be considered light reading  but also has some weaknesses such as errors in facts about the West and quite an illogical plot. Yet, it still will appeal to a reader that enjoys stories about animals.

The plot can be summarized as the story  about a young man visiting a Western dude ranch and its main theme revolves around the idea that horses are intelligent.

The story´s main strengths are its delightful characters Harry Jones and  Old Paint, the horse who together live exiciting events.These help the author achieve his purpose of entertaining his reader by using humorous quotations and various types of figures of speech.
