write 8/4 as a mixed number. how did you come to your answer

To write in the mixed fraction you have to simply divide 8 and 4. 
To right in the mixed number we need to know numerator, denominator and divisor. 
So in your problem our divisor is 4, 
so now lets divide it 
$\frac{8}{4}$
$= \frac{2}{1}$

So, now we have to write it as mixed number..
mixed number  will be 
$2 \frac{0}{8}$
