The Articles of Confederation created the first government of the United States. It was created in "1777" after the Revolutionary war began. Because the colonists were fearful of a very "powerful" government, the Articles of Confederation created a fairly "weak" national government. There was no "Executive Branch", meaning there was no president, and there was no "Supreme Court" to settle national legal disputes. Congress was not able to create or collect "taxes" meaning the country had little money to spend. Congress was able to "make laws" to govern the country, but even that was hard to do. In "1789", a new government was created, giving us the "Constitution" we use to this very day.
