Exponents are used in math so its easier to multiply. For example if you have to do 8 * 8 * 8 * 8 * 8 * 8 * 8 * 8, then to make it easier to multiply you could change into the exponent form [tex] 8^{8} [/tex] that is what exponents are used for in math
