Akbar-the Great was the Mughal Emperor who greatly expanded as well as strengthened the Mughal Empire. He was the son of Humayun and grandson of Babur-the founder of mughal empire.

He received a small territory when he ascended the throne. But by his policies of conquests and matrimonial alliances with hindu rajas, he expanded his empire and was the first mughal emperor to expand his empire up to southern parts of India. He not only expanded the empire but also strengthened it through a strong centralized administration and well disciplined army.
