Mega mart collects a sales tax equal to 1/16 of the retail price.
Lets take some example
Suppose retail price = $16 then tax = [tex]\frac{1}{16} * 16 = 1[/tex]
retail price = $32 then tax = [tex]\frac{1}{16} * 32 = 2[/tex]
retail price = $48 then tax = [tex]\frac{1}{16} * 48 = 3[/tex]
retail price = $64 then tax = [tex]\frac{1}{16} * 64 = 4[/tex]
From this we conclude that , [tex]tax = \frac{1}{16} * cost \ of \ an \ item[/tex]
So, the amount of tax collected proportional to the cost of an item before tax is added
