To plot any function, you can write a table in which your first column is x and the second is y. In this case you can think intuitively. Since y=x means that every value that x has will be the same as y. In the coordinate plane, that would mean that when x is 0 y is 0, when x is 1 y is 1, when x is -5 y is -5, when x is a million, y is a million. You can pick 2 values for x (choose 0 and 1 since they are easy to graph) and then draw a line through those two points.

If you're familiar with the equation of a line, the slope-intercept form is y=mx+b. In your case, b is 0 and m is 1, meaning that the y-intercept is 0 and the line has a slope of 1.
