The RACE technique stands for Restate, Answer, Cite and Explain. Even though it is a quite simplistic technique, it is tremendously useful, because it help students to answer mostly literature questions in a more thoroughly manner. It also helps student analyze and think more critically about what they need to answer.

By making the students restate the answer they practice their critical thinking because they need to decide in what way the question could be rephrase. At the answering stage students need to analyze the evidence to see what part can best offer a response to the question. Once they answer the question students need to evaluate and ponder which part of the evidence is the best citation to strengthen their response. At the final stage students need to integrate all the newly acquired knowledge with their previous experiences to form and present a proper explanation  which, at the same time, summarizes and explains their whole answer.
