(x , y) → (5, 9)

Since both equations express y in terms of x we can equate them

7x - 26 = 4x - 11

subtract 4x from both sides

7x - 4x - 26 = - 11

3x - 26 = - 11

add 26 to both sides

3x = - 11 + 26 = 15

divide both sides by 3

x = [tex]\frac{15}{3}[/tex] = 5

substitute x = 5 into either of the 2 equations for y

y = (4 × 5) - 11 = 20 - 11 = 9

solution is (5, 9)
