To find two points, you just plug in any number for x, and see what you get out for y

Point 1: (2,8)
[tex]y = 3(2) + 2 \\ y = 6 + 2 \\ y = 8[/tex]

Point 2: (-2,-4)
[tex]y = 3( - 2) + 2 \\ y = - 6+ 2 \\ y = - 4[/tex]
And to show why the slope is 3, you use the slope formula:
[tex] m = \frac{(y2 - y1)}{(x2 - x1)} [/tex]
We use the points we found: (2,8) and (-2,-4)
[tex] m = \frac{(( - 4) - 8)}{(( - 2) - 2)} \\ m = \frac{ (- 12)}{( - 4)} \\ m = 3[/tex]
