These nematodes are important for the ecosystem as they act as decomposes for the organic materials and also help to recycle the important nutrients in the soil. They influence the degradation and mineralization of organic matter. The nematodes also form a relationship with the bacteria and fungi of the soil which also helps in the basic functions of the nematodes. The nematodes also share a small fraction of total biomass and respiration in the soil. Therefore, nematodes are also responsible for the production of carbon dioxide in the soil. This carbon dioxide also helps the bacteria and fungi in the decomposition of the organic matter in the soil.
