Who was Oscar Wilde ?
Oscar Wilde was an Anglo-Irish playwright, novelist, poet and critic. He is considered one of the greatest playwrights of the Victorian era. In his life he wrote nine plays, one novel and numerous poems, short stories and essays.
Wild was a supporter of the aesthetic movement, which emphasized aesthetic values over moral or social issues. This doctrine can most clearly be summarized in the phrase "art for art's sake".
In addition to his literary achievements, he is also famous or perhaps notorious for his wit, luxury, and relationships with men. He was tried and imprisoned for a homosexual relationship with his aristocratic son (which was considered a crime at the time).
