Osmosis is the movement of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane from higher water concentration to a lower water concentration. The movement of osmosis is affected by the concentration gradient. The lower the concentration of the solute within a solvent, the faster osmosis will occur in that solvent.

Hence, when the water moves from lower concentration solution to higher concentration or when the concentration gradient is greater, osmosis rate will be faster.
