During World War II, the Battle of Midway was significant because it tilted the favor of the war in the Pacific towards the United States, since the US caused a great deal of devastation to the Japanese fleet during this battle. 

The Battle of Midway was a crucial naval battle that took place in 1942 in the Pacific front during WWII, after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.

Before the battle, the Japanese approached it believing that if the US lost another battle they would be forced to surrender in the Pacific War, and they would ensure their dominance in the region.

In opposition, during the battle, the US destroyed the Japanese naval forces, and the defeat of the Japanese in this battle, together with that in the Guadalcanal campaign, consituted a turning point in the Pacific War during WWII.
