The answer is 17/4 as an improper fraction and 4 1/4 as a mixed number
A.) 1 7/8 Times 2 + 1 1/2------>>>> first off 1 & 1/8 times 2 =s what? 2 14/8 buts thats improper so we will reduce the fraction part. how many times does 8 go into14? once, so our total mixed number would be 3 6/8 or 3 & 3/4
Now we add the additional 1 & 1/2 which would bring our total to 4 & 5/4. (because we get the common denominator of 2 because 1/2 is equivalent to 2/4) Again we have an improper fraction so we will reduce it like this: 5/4 =s 1 1/4 now, we add it all together. 1 1/4 + 4(because we have 4 left over because we reduced 5/4) which =s 5 1/4 ANSWER: 5 1/4
