Abbasid Caliphate was the 3rdIslamic caliphate after Islamic Prophet Mohammad, founded by Abbas Ibn Abdul Muttalib. They established Baghdad as their capital by throwing the Umayyad caliphate during the Abbasid revolution. The period is marked by the dynasty reliance on the Persian for governing territories and further extension of Islamic culture in the non- Muslim areas.
Persians were having a great impact on the Abbasid Dynasty. Many customs and traditions of Persians were adopted by them, and even they begun patronage of scholars and artists in Bagdad. They established Bagdad as the center of culture, invention, and philosophy which in other term also made it the “Islamic Golden age”.
The flourishment attracted the Mongols to attack them.During the attack, Baghdad was the capital of the Abbasid caliphate under the monarchy of Hulagu Khan. The despoliation lasted from 29th January till 10th February 1258. Mosques were plundered and demolished. Precious books from the Baghdad's libraries were ruined and scorched.
