Because the warm and wet air masses come towards the Sierra Nevada Mountains from their western side, the western slopes of the mountains are receiving a lot of rainfall, and this is due to the limiting factor that the mountain represents for the air masses, because they can not pass over it with all their accumulated water and the rain falls mostly on this side of the mountain. On the eastern side, on the other hand, the mountain receives dry downward air masses that have been emptied on the other side, so they make the land very dry and the landscape looks totally different.
