Multiply the numbers as if they have no decimal point. Then count the number of decimal places to the right of the decimal point of each number and add them together. Then make the same number of decimal places in the result of the multiplication.
Example: What is 45.63 * 8.287
Do 4563 * 8287 = 37813581
45.62 has 2 decimal places, the 6 and the 3 in bold.
8.287 has 3 decimal places, the 2, the 8, and the 7 in bold.
2 + 3 = 5. The product must have 5 decimal places.
Start counting places from the right and place the decimal point after you count 5 places.
37813581 (you see the 5 rightmost places in bold)
378.13581 (the decimal place goes just to the left of the 5 rightmost decimal places)
Answer: 378.13581
