The fertilized cell that results is referred to as a zygote. A zygote is diploid cell, which means that it has twice the number of chromosomes as a gamete
When two haploid gametes are combine during fertilization they form zygote(2n). These gametes are are haploid cells , consists of only one set of chromosome . These gametes combine during the fertilization , which helps in restoring the diploid number.
