Note that when you are dividing, and there is the same base, subtract

3^2/3^4 = 3^(2 - 4) = 3^(-2)

3^(-2) = 1/(3^2)

Simplify

1/(3^2) = 1/9

1/9 is your answer

hope this helps

Method #1:

[tex]\dfrac{3^2}{3^4}=\dfrac{3^2}{3^{2+2}}=\dfrac{3^2}{3^2\cdot3^2}=\dfrac{1}{3^2}=\dfrac{1}{9}[/tex]

Method #2:

[tex]\dfrac{3^2}{3^4}=3^{2-4}=3^{-2}=\dfrac{1}{3^2}=\dfrac{1}{9}[/tex]

used:

[tex]\dfrac{a^m}{a^n}=a^{n-m}\\\\a^{-n}=\dfrac{1}{a^n}[/tex]

Method #3:

[tex]\dfrac{3^2}{3^4}=\dfrac{\not3\cdot\not3}{\not3\cdot\not3\cdot3\cdot3}=\dfrac{1}{9}[/tex]
