Which of the following quotes supports the idea that the major conflict or complicating incident of "The Interlopers" is when the tree falls on the two men?
Question 4 options:

He strayed away by himself from the watchers whom he had placed in ambush on the crest of the hill and wandered far down the steep slopes amid the wild tangle of undergrowth, peering through the tree trunks and listening through the whistling and skirling of the wind and the restless beating of the branches for sight or sound of the marauders.

But a man who has been brought up under the code of a restraining civilization cannot easily nerve himself to shoot down his neighbor in cold blood and without a word spoken, except for an offense against his hearth and honor.

And before the moment of hesitation had given way to action, a deed of Nature’s own violence overwhelmed them both. A fierce shriek of the storm had been answered by a splitting crash over their heads, and ere they could leap aside, a mass of falling beech tree had thundered down on them.

Georg was silent for a moment; then he answered quietly: “Are you sure that your men will find much to release? I have men, too, in the forest tonight, close behind me, and they will be here first and do the releasing. When they drag me out from under these branches, it won’t need much clumsiness on their part to roll this mass of trunk right over on the top of you.

Question 1. Answer: C Theme is a universal lesson learned and central idea is a one sentence main idea.

The central idea refers to what the piece of writing is mostly about and can be usually stated in one sentence. As for the Theme, it can be defined as the life/universal lesson the text holds, as well as the author's message or moral of it. It isn't directly stated in the story and the reader usually has to think it through.

Question 2. Answer: B, C, D. All non-fiction, fiction, narrative non-fiction.

A narrative arc refers to the chronological construction of plot in a novel or story, which can be either fiction or non-fiction. Its main purpose isn't to persuade, but to tell a story, event, etc.

Question 3. Answer: C Exposition

The exposition is the beginning of the story, the one component of this type of structure where the characters and the setting are introduced.

Question 4. Answer: C And before the moment of hesitation had given way to action, a deed of Nature’s own violence overwhelmed them both. A fierce shriek of the storm had been answered by a splitting crash over their heads, and ere they could leap aside, a mass of falling beech tree had thundered down on them.

This paragraph is the one that focuses on describing and narrating the incident of the trees falling to the two men.

Question 5. Answer: A Use details from the story to figure it out

A reference can be defined as a conclusion or opinion formed about a text based on the information, evidence or facts that the reader has, even if those are few.

Question 6. Answer: D  Sometimes revenge isn't as sweet as one thought it would be.

This is an example of a theme because it represents a lesson or a message the author might have wanted to convey with the story.

Question 7. Answer: A  Love wins in the end.

Even though the main characters (Georg and Ulrich) reconcile their differences and ended up as "friends", it doesn't mean there was love toward each other at the end, but peace. Until the final scene appears: some wolves are coming to attack them, prompting a violent end, and leaving the reader with more of a "Nature always wills" feeling rather than anything else.

Question 8. Answer: D Georg and Ulrich had revenge on their minds, but nature would change their plans and their hearts.

This phrase tells exactly what the story is about. The main characters were born enemies because of their families, and plot revenge. However, nature interferes in their affairs by putting them in a situation where they end up subside feelings of hate and greed and make peace with each other.

Question 9. Answer: D  the abandoned-- house; the night-- sky

Abandoned is a characteristic given to a noun (the house).

The "night" describes the current state of the noun (sky).

Question 10. Answer: D  on; of

A preposition is a short word or set of words that indicates location, time or some other relationship between a noun or pronoun and other parts of the sentence. And it's followed by the object of the preposition.

These are prepositions because they show a relationship in space ("on the top" and "of the new hotel") and they're followed by a noun phrase or pronoun ("the top" and "the new hotel"), which are the objects of the prepositions.
