The qualities and conduct required of Council Lords by the Iroquois constitution are: 1. They shall be mentors of the people for all time. 2. They must be honest in all things. 3. Certain physical defects as idiocy, blindness, deafness, dumbness, and impotency make him ineligible to sit in the Confederate Council. 4. When a Council Lord dies, the surviving relatives shall immediately dispatch a messenger, a member of another clan, to the Lords in another locality. 5. If a Council Lord desires to resign his title, he shall notify the Lords of the Nation of which he is a member of his intention. 6. When a Lordship title is to be conferred, the candidate Lord shall furnish the cooked venison, the cornbread, and the corn soup.
