Troops

As the French were struggling in Vietnam and eventually began to pull out troops, some members of the US wanted Eisenhower to send troops to take over the war effort to prevent a communist takeover of Vietnam. Eisenhower refused to issue troops to Vietnam but did agree to assist the South Vietnamese with military leadership and training as well as money and weapons as needed. Troops would not be sent to Vietnam until the presidency of Lyndon Johnson.
