Audience, who are you writing to?
Format, what kind of writing will you do? (e.g. Diary, interview)
Topic or purpose, what are you going to talk about? (e.g. Entertain, inform)
Once you have these items clear, you'll be able to draft an acurate essay and adapt it to your audience knowledge level.
