Two angles are complementary is the sum of their measures is 90 degrees. the measure of the first angle is 12 degrees more than 4 times the second angle. find the measure of the first angle.

Using the information given you can set up an equation to find the angle.
Let x = Second angle
Let 4x + 12 = First angle
Angle 1 and 2 should add together to equal 90°. The equation therefore is ,
[tex](4x + 12) + (x) = 90[/tex]
[tex]4x + 12 + x = 90[/tex]
[tex]5x -12 = 90[/tex]
[tex]5x = 102[/tex]
[tex]x = 20.4[/tex]
However the value of x is not for the first angle, it is the value for the second angle. Putting this value unto the first angles equation will give us the actual angle.
[tex]4(20.4) + 12[/tex]
[tex]81.6 + 12[/tex]
[tex] = 93.6[/tex]
The first angle is 93.6°.
