The 3g's are Gold, God, and Glory.

The Motivation for Exploration is Wealth and Religion. The goals for, French and English and Spanish explorers were all distinct but although, in some context, they were the similar such as Glory.  All the explorers such as French, English, and Spanish wanted to discover the Northwest Passage, which they considered the straight and effective route to the Orient - home of seasonings, silks and wealth.

They 3 G's that are often used to summarize the motivation for European exploration are gold, god and glory. European explores thought that they would find a lot of gold in new land. They also wanted to explore their religion (god) and they wanted their country to be the most powerful, which denotes the motivation for  glory.
