The king deprived the colonists “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” according to the Declaration of Independence, in such ways that he did not allow the colonists to make their own laws, he did not allow them to perform trade with other parts of the world, and he made armies stand amongst them even in times of peace without their consent.
