Okay. First, let me just say, it doesn't matter which side the equal sign is on.
1. 5x-5=y
This is the same as
y=5x-5
2. 16=4y-5x
Subtract 4y from both sides.
16 - 4y = 4y - 4y - 5x
16 - 4y = -5x
Subtract 16 from both sides.
16 - 16 - 4y = -5x - 16
-4y = -5x - 16
Divide by -4 on both sides.
-4y/-4 = -5x - 16/-4
y = -5x + 4
3. 6y+18=3x
Subtract 18 from both sides.
6y + 18 - 18 = 3x - 18
6y = 3x - 18
Divide by 6 on both sides.
6y/6 = 3x - 18/6
y = 3x - 3
The answers are...
y = 5x - 5
y = -5x + 4
y = 3x - 3
