On a recent trip to the convenience store, you picked up 3 gallons of milk, 5 bottles of water, and 5 snack-size bags of chips. your total bill (before tax) was $25.50. if a bottle of water costs twice as much as a bag of chips, and a gallon of milk costs $2.20 more than a bottle of water, how much does each item cost

Respuesta :

Let us suppose cost of chips packet = $x

Then cost of water bottle = $ 2x

cost of 1 gallon milk = $ 2.20 + cost of water bottle = 2x+ 2.20

Total cost of 3 gallons milk = 3( 2x+ 2.20) = 6x + 6.6

cost of 5 water bottle = 5* 2x =10x

Cost of 5 chips pack = 5x

total cost = cost of milk + water bottle + chips packet

= 6x+ 6.6 + 10x + 5x = 25.50

21 x + 6.6 = 25.50

21 x = 25.50 - 6.6

21x =18.9

x= 18.9/21

x= 6.3/7 = 0.9

Answer :

cost of 1 gallon milk = 2x+2.2 = 2* 0.9 + 2.2 = 4

cost of one chips pack = x = 0.9

cost of water bottle = 2x = 2* 0.9 = 1.8
