if the sun is straight above the earth's surface then the sunlight will hit and most will absorb into the surface but some will still bounce back straight up, but if the sunlight hits the earths surface at a slanted angle then the sunlight will hit and bounce away at a slanted angle with little sunlight being absorbed by the earth's surface
