The majority of gas exchange in plants takes place through leaves. They contain structures called as stomata, which are pores formed between guard cells. These openings allow the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between plants and the surrounding atmosphere. Apart from leaves, openings are also present on stem and they are termed as lenticels. Small proportion of gas exchange takes place through stem also.
