The War of 1812 is often referred to as a second war of independence for several reasons including:
1) The United States was fighting against Britain in the North American continent.
2) The United States saw Britain as abusing their power by kindapping American sailors and forcing them to work for the British army (also known as impressment).
3) The United States and Britain were fighting for land and power in North America.
In this war Britain was trying to maintain their power in America, just like they tried to do during the American Revolution.
Great Britain did not always respect the rights of the United States after the first war. - APEX
