In Common Sense, Thomas Paine attempts to persuade American colonists that it is time to separate from England and form an independent nation. Paine uses two different two different types of arguments. The first of these are logical, facts-driven arguments which show the advantages— economic, military, etc— to independence. The second type of argument Paine uses appeals more to readers emotions. He argues that independence is a “natural right” and owed to the colonists.
