It lead to the development of many things in the future. For instance, the transcontinental railroad, the Homestead Act, and even later the California Gold Rush.
These are positive as it opened up exploration, the discovery of new species, and allowed the population of America to prosper with immigrants and different ethnicities that soon built strong relations within the country.
