The formula for the surface area of a cone is [tex]SA= \pi r(r+ \sqrt{h^2+r^2} )[/tex].  Filling in accordingly, we have [tex]SA= \pi (8)(8+ \sqrt{46^2+8^2} )[/tex] and [tex]SA=8 \pi (8+ \sqrt{2116+64}) [/tex].  That will simplify to [tex]SA=8 \pi (8+ \sqrt{2180} )[/tex] and [tex]SA=8 \pi (8+46.69047)[/tex].  If we LEAVE pi in the answer you would have [tex]437.5 \pi [/tex] which rounds to [tex]438 \pi [/tex].  If you multiply pi in, you would have 1375.5 or, rounded, 1376.  Of course those labels are all meters squared.
