You first have to find your A and B values before you can do it. From there you get the A and the B value and plug it into the formula a2+b2=c2 (2= squared). An example could be like 2(2)+6(2)=c(2). This would be 4+36=c(2). In this case c is equal to 40.
A squared plus b squared = c squared. c being the hypotenuse. Can only be used in a right triangle.
