Although general perception about the new deal is that it helped in ending the effects of the great depression but the historians are divided over it. The critics have questioned Roosevelt's policies and positions and also accuse him of centralizing the power in his hands, some even feared that he was heading toward the dictatorship. The liberals and radicals criticized him for not providing help for maintaining the aspects of capitalism.
