Taxi service x charges $8 as the base fare and $2.50 per mile. Taxi service y charges $4.50 per mile with no base fare. After how many miles is the cost of the two taxi services the same?

Super simple! Set up the equations to equal each other.

2.50x + 8 = 4.50x 

No subtract 2.50x from both sides 

8 = 2x

Now, divide by 2 to isolate the x.

x= 4

NOw let's go back and check again. 
 
I'm gonna do this in a calculator.....They are indeed equal to each other!
