The correct answer is C. The United States claimed large amounts of land including California, Utah, and New Mexico.

The war between the United States and Mexico ended in 1848 when both countries signed the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo in which it was established that Mexico would give to the United States large territories comprising the current territories of the current states of California, Utah and Nevada, most of New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona, and parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming.

Mexico received compensation for the damages caused during the war for 15 million dollars. Border boundaries were set along the Rio Grande. In short, Mexico lost half of its territory and the United States got, among other things, the exit to the Pacific Ocean.
