Respuesta :

Mikhail Gorbachev implemented multiple policies that lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union. This collapse was not necessarily a bad thing, as it allowed the citizens of the former Soviet Union to have much more freedom in society.

For example, Gorbachev implemented two important policies perestroika and glasnost. Perestroika was focused on deconstructing the economic planning that the government used to do. Before this policy, the government told a majority of businesses what to produce, how much to produce, and even decided what resources all citizens would get. However, after implementing perestroika, citizens were able to have more economic freedom and got to choose what resources they wanted with their money.

Glasnost also helped in obtaining more freedoms for these citizens. This policy allowed for the media to post stories without having to get government approval first. This allowed newspapers to criticize the government, offer suggestions, and speak out against injustices without fear of punishment. Glasnost also helped citizens who did not practice the most popular religion in the Soviet Union the opportunity to practice their faith without consequences from the government.
