When energy is used, ATP molecules convert to ADP molecules. This process is called "Phosphorylation." Phosphorylation is the addition of a phosphate (PO4) group to a protein or other organic molecule. A phosphate bond joins adenosine diphosphate to form adenosine triphosphate.
