social, and genetic

Ethnic identity is based upon social group and racial identity is based upon genetic group. Ethnicity has to  with the social grouping one belongs to, and it can even be in members of similar genetic make up.

Ethnic Identifies are based on Social Groups, while racial identity is based upon Genetic groups.

These are distinctive as Ethnicity is more of a social construct e.g. English being an ethnicity or Indian being ethnicity.

However, racial groups are based on biology and genetic backgrounds. For example, Jews of Israel are often considered an ethnicity but not a race.

This is because they form the same ethnicity but biologically they all have variations as some are from Europe, some from Africa and some from as far away as India.
