By just looking at the word GEOTHERMAL, we can to some degree decipher what the answer may be. The prefix "Geo-" refers to the earth and the word "Thermal" refers to heat. Thus without concrete knowledge, the conclusion can be drawn that the source of geothermal energy is the HEAT FROM WITHIN THE EARTH, which is the case.
