1. Multiply the second equation by 3 so it equals -9+6y=-42
2. Multiply the first equation by 2 so it equals 4x+6y=10
3. Subtract the second equation from the first so you arrive at 4x+9=-32
4. Solve for x so you arrive at x=(-32-9)/4 or x =-10.25
It is worth noting that this is quite the bizarre method, it would be much simpler to solve for y in the second equation and then substitute that in the second equation than using the elimination method.
